Looking West on Main Street
The northern façade of the Hotel Putnam is on the far left of this image with the eastern half of what would become known as the Winslow Block just beyond it. The decoratively painted cart in the lower right corner may have been a lunch cart, which frequented this site during the period. Further along are advertisements for Frear’s Bazaar and Piercy and Co. Organs, both businesses located in Troy, New York. The building dominating the right side of the image is a brick structure that was originally built as the First National Bank in 1868, which remains largely as constructed except for minor alterations to the storefront. In the center background is the steeple of St. Francis de Sales church, built between 1889 and 1892. The church remains, but the steeple was removed in the 1920s.
